The Revd Dr John Polkinghorne

Dear Dr Polkinghorne

We, (Engaging Issues: explorations in faith and Experience) would like you to lead a session in our next series of lectures/discussions this autumn/winter. We are an open group of members from most churches in the town and villages around as well as the general public who are keen to think beyond the traditional or orthodox views of both church and society. Many of the people who come are and have been in their professional lives required to think 'outside the box'.

The numbers vary between 40 and 60, though both the subject and the speaker are always a factor. I expect we should make a wider appeal this season as our general theme is 'Living with Difference'.

We thought that you might address the area of science as a continuing part of the creative process and that both science and religion can be creative allies. Stem cell research and other recent changes passed by government may be in people's minds. The real issue is the way in which God moves us through both science and religion and in this the area of exploration is open to your choice.

Our dates are Tuesday evenings 7.30 - 9.30 p.m. After some 5 minutes related reflection/music and introduction this would leave 110 minutes for lecture, questions, discussion and closing remarks. dates available are:Nov. 25th; Dec.9th; Jan 13th; Jan.27th. Church Stretton has good access by rail and overnight accommodation is available.

I trust this gives you a sufficient picture on which to make your decision to come.

Yours sincerely
Noel Beattie
