St. Gregory of Nyssa church in in San Francisco is arguably the flagship for "progressive" worship in the Episcopal Church. They seek to merge ancient and modern form of worship to varying effect. This video shows their Easter Vigil service, combining a very "Eastern Orthodox" candle lighting ceremony with modern drumming and dancing.
The worship at Gregory of Nyssa is not everyone's cup of tea. I myself am very appreciative of what they draw from the Eastern tradition, but am not as enamored of the somewhat "hippyesque" dancing liturgies. Drumming and dancing are standard parts of African Christian liturgy, but this is a little different. Maybe it's "Native Californian?" ;-)
In any case, Gregory of Nyssa is working on ways to make liturgy speak to their local contexts, and it is vitally important that we do that. I am always interested to see what they are doing.
